At the East Asian Games 2009, the fifth times in Hong Kong, Japan has received 62 Gold, 58 Silver, 70 Bronze and with a total of 190 medals. We are honored and delighted to be invited to perform “Soran Yosakoi” in front of Japanese athletes. It was quite windy that night and we enjoyed it. Funny that the Local MC has made a mistake and introduced us “This Japanese dance group came all the way from Japan”, wow?!

It was a great stage experience for beginners and students who learned traditional Japanese dance for few months. Even it was a 2 mins performance but I believed it was an important experience for the students. It was refreshing and fun to dance at an outdoor stage.

International Day at The Hong Kong Institute of Education

Wakayagi Ryu Konokai was invited to perform at International Day of the Hong Kong Institute of Education in Taipo on 11 Novemeber 2009. A stage was made in campus, students from different countries were introducing their own cultures at the International Day. Konokai was representing Japan and therefore we performed a piece of traditional Japanese dance.

Wakayagi Ryu Konokai are delighted to visit the Chinese Kimono factory owned by Kimono shops in Kyoto. There were 16 of us and it was a great experience to see how a piece of white fabric transformed into colorful and delicate Kimono by Chinese workmanship. We, as a group closely related to Kimono, feel that we have a mission to deliver the message of “wonderful Japanese culture” to everyone after our trip. Thank you for the time and fantastic tour!

Wakayagi Ryu Konokai are delighted to demonstrate traditional Japanese dance and to hold a Japanese dance workshop at Immaculate Heart of Mary College in Shatin on 17 September 2009. There were over 100 students participated and 3 students in Yukata were experiencing the Japanese way of sitting, the bow and the walking. It was a little bit difficult for students who watched traditional Japanese dance for the first time, and I felt we need to reorganize a better program next time.

Wakayagi Ryu Konokai was invited to perform traditional Japanese Dance at HKUSpace Open Day on 20 June 2009. Lots of students participated and had fun at our Japanese dance workshop. We had a group photos with everyone and it was a wonderful day.
